Default will a ZJ Pitman arm fit an XJ ?

will a ZJ Pitman arm fit an XJ ?

and if so, is it "dropped" by 1" ?

I have heard this is the case, and its been used to help keep steering parts parallel in lifted vehicles

Have previously used a dropped Pitman arm in another type of vehicles for this issue, (it had a body-on-frame though)

I would have thought this mod would be more commonplace, but I dont see mention of it ?

(mine are '96 XJ)

Know what's kinda cool also?

Put a ZJ steering box in with the pitman arm on it. Steering is quicker and sportier than the XJ.

I thought I'd read somewhere that the XJ and ZJ steering was identical, other than the V8 getting beefier linkage, is this incorrect? The thread was on another forum and something like 8 years old, so it's possibly bad info.

I'm not sure on the linkage. Someone else will chime in.

The V8 ZJ tie rods are a direct swap, that's what I am using.

I dont think we ever had V8 ZJ in Oz, only the 4.0, and if one wishes to do this, the part has to be imported from the US

Freight is a bit pricey

The XJ item certainly is pretty spindly, I took one out and put it in a vice to get the seized ends moving..thought I was gonna twist the thin-walled metal tube!
