Why do they call it 4wd if only 2 wheels get power?

And if most of these smaller Xjs with there
4.5in lifts, and there 33s followed me.. they would be up to
there windows in water/mud with a hydrolocked motor.

lol i dont know why some people on here think its dumb to have 10 inches of lift and 38s..

first off, if you like rocks, you like rocks... and you build your jeep accordingly.
if you like loading up the kids and going on a gravel road with a few potholes, then so be it...

Now if you like to mud, and you live anywhere in the south, if you have a 4.5" lift and 33s, you are not going to get through anything that any rednecks truck with 44's went through before you... and thats pretty much everywhere there is a 1'x1' patch of mud.. (i see trucks with 12"+ of lift and 44s every single day here in louisiana.. some of my buddies have them!) I have been tempted to get at least 8 of lift, throw some 60s on there and some 38/40" tires many times.. i just need to get something better on gas first

and to OP.. you should jack your jeep up from the frame in the middle, put it in 4H and give it gas.. all four tires will spin and in a normal 2wd car/truck/jeep whatever, only ONE wheel has power at all times... get a 2wd car stuck in the mud and you will see only one spinning for the same reason

X2

It's hard for people who aren't from here to understand that mud is everywhere down here. And when it comes to mud, the bigger the lift and bigger the tires, the better you do .

Not always true. On my stock 2wd open diff mj with 31" all terrain tires I went though some stuff that alot of the "big boys" wouldnt even touch. Its Also very much so how you drive. But yes mud is every where and I love it! If I had the cash I would go with a 8" lift and 35's. I think that 35" tires is alot of tire and you need! to have the gearing to match. Sorry for the hijack

I don't believe a 2wd could climb a mountain or cross a river quite like a 4wd... but with good driving skills and smart judgement of throttle response and a general understanding of physics u could get a 2wd dam close, and I could prove that. I'll be producing video soon...

Oh how I'm glad the NW requires 4x4 knowledge as well as land formation comon sense . I'm thankful we know how to wheel and don't just throw lots of rubber and lift stupidly at horsepower, for a mud-hole. Knowledge is power and damn the NW is powerful.

Don't get me wrong I've got a 75 K5, with 13 inches And 38s all locked up for mud puddling but that gets boring after the third time you hit the same hole.
