ya that axle was pretty beat, i blew up the gearset so had to take the axleshafts and driveshafts out so i could drive it.

the pass side drag link bolt was seized in the knuckle, and the drivers side bolt wasn't welded on that was the hack job that was done to open the knuckle up to accept the heims. pretty sure a torch was used

did the job though, when it worked that is

Agreed: Use safety washers. It's basically a washer with a larger O.D. than the ball, so if the joint fails it won't have a high-speed disconnect from the rest of the suspension. (Meaning, if it fails, you'll still have some steering control. It's a safety layer.)

So all in all....will switching over to heims take care of the sloppy steering? I have HORRIBLE tre roll which has a dead spot and causes my steering to respond late and i tend to over compensate on the road. I really think i'm going to get Ballistic Fab's 3/4" kit with high misalignment spacers along with their trac bar relocation mount( not sure if i need the regular or offset trac bar mount)

I'm really in need of fixing my steering problem and my wife gave me the go ahead to order the kit since the kids ride in my jeep daily. Just to clarify...if someone turns the steering wheel I can see the pitman arm move, then the drag link and tie rod will roll and pop before turning the tires. I don't think he problem is in the box at all. There is so much slop in the steering itself. I currently have Rusty's steering kit on there drilled out and installed OTK instead of UTK. The tre's have been recently replaced and look and feel like crap already.
