Default Who Makes the Best leaf Springs?

Who makes the best lift leafs for our XJs? Looking for around 3.5-4.5". So far I've found BDS, Deaver, and Clayton (feel free to add to this). Rubicon Express and OME seem to be hit or miss on longevity. Lately I've been hearing a lot of people complaining about RE leafs cracking not sure if they've changed quality recently and maybe that's why (please leave feedback on this if you've bought RE springs recently). Rusty's and RE leafs seem to be made similarly as far as bushing sizes go (smaller than oem). Anyone running BDS leafs? They seem to be the cheapest of the three i listed.

I run BDS. The ride quality is amazing. Their leafs seem to be constructed top quality. I did have an issue with them being extremely squeaky. I greased the bushings with silicone lube ( they are poly ) and torqued to the right specs. I also had an issue with pads not being inbetween the leafs as I have seen on other sets. After speaking with costumer support they said they dont use pads inbetween leafs and to pack them with bearing grease, I have heard conflicting info on doing this so I havent tried.

Zone, BDS, RE, and Rusty's are all good, so is OME if you have deep pockets.

Check into Alcan Springs if you don’t want to go with the usual names.

I went with RE for my current built just because the price was too good to pass up on and I have zero complaints about them other than they run much taller than advertised if that can be considered a negative. They ride great when I’m fully loaded with gear though a little rough empty. I need shackle relocation brackets to alleviate some of that but For under 120 each I can’t complain. I daily my XJ and hit trails fully loaded with camping gear and tools as well as a tire carrier bumper as often as I can during the spring, summer and fall and have no noticeable loss in lift height in the 2 years I’ve had them on.

That being said I used to run Alcan springs on my CJ’s and I had friends run them on CJ’s,YJ’s, Toyota’s and old Broncos. They were pricey but custom made and GREAT springs. The real kicker for all of us was that they were made here in Colorado.

I might give those RE springs a shot for the same reason as you, they’re 10% off right now at $100 each. Do you know what center pins they use? Like did you have to drill out your axle perches a little? Mine are already drilled from my last set of lift springs.

If you can afford BDS, you can afford OME.
OME is a lot less than BDS. I have OME on my XJ and I love them. I bought them from DPG offroad, and Dirk is always there to help jeep folks. Super great guy!

Yeah I did not get the ""Deep Pockets"" thing either?
OME's are not expensive at all!

As zmzamarripa stated Alcan springs are great.
Yes, yes they are!
I have Alcan's on my FSJ Wagoneer's, and possibly the best leafs I have ever owned. However the cost for just the rear springs for the XJ are going to run you upwards of 800-900.
They build the springs to your specifications, so they are not an "off the shelf" springs.
Bill Ford is the owner, and is a nice guy. They are also VERY busy so you will have a bit of a lead time for them as well.

Do you know what size the center pins are on those OME Springs? Are they 5/16 or 3/8? I'm in kind of a dilemma as the previous owner drilled my perches out already. I guess i could always drill the OME leafs out to 3/8ths if they weren't.

Is there a way to mention someones name in a reply so they get notified?
Thanks

i did have to drill the perches however I don’t remember off the top of my head what I had to drill them to. Maybe 5/16”? You could always weld in a little more material and then re drill if it’s too large.

OME must have lowered their prices, I looked at them a couple years ago and the were over $400 a pair if I remember correctly.

My buddies and I were going through Alcan in the late 90s early 2000s? Took a good while to get them once ordered and they were expensive even for back then but they were VERY flexible but still stable enough to be comfortable and confident on the road to the trail.

This was before we all started having kids and money was easier to spend.

The real deal sealer for us was that they were made just a few hours away from home. I keep telling myself I need to go see the folks at Tomken sometime soon being that they are not too far from me. I do need a gas tank skid...

what about deaver springs? ive seen those mentioned on a good number of builds. Ive had two sets of RE, ide likely try OME or Deaver for something new, RE have been good though.
