Default wheel spacers

I know this has been covered in many threads...but this is a little unique so I thought I'd ask.

My dad has a 1999 XJ Limited (bone stock). I recently put a lift on my son's TJ and had a set of deent wheels and tires (30x9.5x15) left over. My dad's XJ was running on racing slicks and I offered them to him. We put them on and they seem to work ok. Except, the wheels are 5.5" backspacing and rub on the sway bar link (he says) when he backs up. He is on a very limited inome and doesn't want to spend a ton on upgrading his Jeep to fit a free set of tires.

Anyway, I am looking for a set of wheel spacers (1/2" or less) to solve the problem. I have looked everywhere I can think of and can't find any. does anyone know where I could find something like that or of another cheap way to fix that problem? If not, he'll probably have to take off the free tires and go back to racing slicks.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

try these guys. I purchased a set of spacer/adapters for my M416 trailer.

I say try these guys, because as my dad said to me "You gave me this problem, go get me a solution!" when we had a similar situation as yours with free tires.

It is typically not advisable to run spacers that reduce the lug thread engagement by that much (1/2" plus). If you are going to run spacers it would be a good idea to run some that bolt to the lugs independently, and have their own lugs for the wheel, like spydertrax. The downside there is that they are pricey, and they are a minimum of 1.25" spacing or so.

It is probably cheapest to put the free tires on his original wheels

You can get new wheels with less backspacing for around $200.

Run over to autozone, you can get universal 1/4 spacers for about 12 bucks a pair. I run them up front to relieve the rubbing I had on my LCAs

if u didnt change out ur studs for longer ones, and u run them for too long like that, ur lugs are going to get stretched out and mess up ur studs. happened to a buddy of mine, he was running those spacers from pepboys or were ever, didnt change out his studs for longer ones and they got stretched out. best bet is to either get some good spacers, like spydertrax, or get longer studs

Didn't even think of that, thanks for the tip. I'll look into getting longer ones

I had no idea that AZ had wheel spacers...thanks for the tip. I'll definitely look there and will look closely at longer studs. My dad is very much expecting me to fix this for him...gotta love dads. Thanks for the info.
