Picture shows a black rubbery sticky tar-like substance sprayed to the left and right of the drivebelt.
8 cyl '98 Black clump of rubber and black smear on belt of unknown origin. Black spattered on sheath of unknown origin.
'98 JGC stalled out. High pitched whine for 20 seconds upon restarting. Driving normally since. AC was accidentally turned ON prior to stall out. May have turned heat off just prior to stallout. Are these things related? What's the black stuff? Melted belt? Belt looks okay.
The outer rim of one of the pulley wheels is coated with this black substance.
Pully on right of pic is for the AC compressor I think and that is the pully with the black residue on its edge.

clean the pulley surfaces and belt and your squeal should go away on start up. it looks like something like oil or some type of liquid like that got on your belt or pulley when adding fluid to something. maybe power steering fluid? you just need to clean that off though
