Yeah, it is well believed that 3" is the safe spot. After that, you have to start spending more money and correcting stuff. Track bars, longer shocks, brake lines and on and on.

Then, if you did your lift like mine and you want to go bigger later, you are stuck with control arms that pointed downward and you have to get a long arm upgrade kit or drop brackets. Ahhh jeeps... Gotta love em! LOL

If you are going to get a hack and tap or slip yoke soon I wouldn't worry about it but if you are going +6", even with a t case drop, you may want to check your u joints afterwards. I had severe knuckle knock after I did my shackles in the rear every time I braked firmly. Even with shims and a t case drop they are barley missing right now ( 1/8 or so of an inch!!!) That's just to much of an angle on your drive shaft at least on my set up anyways.

I am also using rough countrys control arm drop kit i will eventualy put the long arm kit on it whats the most u can get out of a control arm drop set up i know it will hinder my flex. Any information will be greatly appriciated thanks.
i ran 6.5 inchs on my 89 with no vibe just a tc drop was used and shackles which angles the rear axle up a little ,older xjs seem to rtake it better than the newer ones. Now mine stick shift dont now if that may of made a difference in the ds lenght compared to a automatic trans

Crazy how 2 xjs can be so different. I was also one of the unlucky ones that had to relocate ( and ended up chopping) my tailpipe from hitting on the shackle bolts.

I did a 3" lift on my 99 and needed a sye/t case drop. I did a full sye and driveshaft because the t case drops put extra stress on already weak motor mounts!
