Default What are you running for cooling?

I get overheating issues during the summer months in street traffic/drive-thrus/wheeling and am wondering what some of you guys are done to remedy...

May try a 3core radiator before doing the taurus fan upgrade later to see if that will fix the immediate issue.

higher flow waterpump suggestions? is it needed?

If your jeep overheats in traffic you got some problems. Does your electric fan work.

Your fan clutch might need replacement.

Before buying anything though do the free stuff. Like flushing your radiator. Just disconnect your radiator hoses then use a garden hose and flush it thoroughly. Might as well do the same with your heater core while you're at it.

Its not guaranteed to fix your issues but it sure as hell won't hurt anything! Lol.

I was overheating in traffic and on the trail. Eventually it would happen after I shut down. I found I had a cracked head(331). Fixed head now I use a flow cooler pump electric fan in front and puller fan in back of radiator on drivers side, also still use mechanical fan(check fan clutch) and flowcooler pump. Might be overkill because I have to keep electric fans off in cooler weather but it doesnt overheat anymore. Also I have hood vents to get the heat out.

I have never overheated my '91 (no telling about the PO), but it used to run hot. I flushed my system, new thermostat, did the zj fan upgrade and removed my a/c condenser (a/c didn't work and I never use it anyway (thinking oba)). It runs right at 195-210 and never higher no matter what time of year. Also, make sure you have a good fan shroud on so that the fan pulls air through the rad and not around the edge of the fan.

I have a 2.5L and I was wondering if a 4.0 radiator will fit and what I'll need to do the swap. It's all sand where I am and ol' girl is overheating when I'm wheelin. Just have the mechanical fan, clutch is good, t-stat too.

but a good upgrade is a stock fan clutch off a 4.0 zj ill be doing a flow cooler pump a ported t-stat housing and a new t-stat soon

I used to overheat alot while sitting still. I got some hood vents, flushed my radiator, new water pump, auto-zone electric fan, and a lower temp thermostat and have not had a problem since! Mine stays right in the 210 range now even crawling along on the trails.

thanks guys ive been reading about the zj upgrade as well, dont really care about noise.

after seeing the chunk of awesome change im gettin back from taxes ive decided to get the 3row radiator off DHG and replace the fan clutch, possibly a flowkooler pump later. i will do it in stages to determine the cause though and will post back once completed. this in conjunction with upgrading to a 8.8 rear axle locked and possibly Super88 if the wife lets me

oh also, if i can actually get my hands on one of the taurus dual speed fans ill be doing that as well

I just bought a champion 3 core from ebay very easy to install and cleared my over heating issue.. The previous owner had dumped tons of stop leak into the OEM radiator and clogged it up something terrible..
