I've got a craftsman 2.5 ton that came as a set with two 3-ton jackstands. The jack works fine, but it's a little hard to control the release on the jack. There is pretty much no such thing as letting it down slow - goes up nice and slow if you want, but comes down all at once no matter how hard you try to be easy on it. Otherwise it's fine for my XJ with about 4" of lift on 31s. Jack stands are on the short side, but always figured I'd stack wood if I had to which I haven't so far...

Always figured the more expensive ones would have better valving to allow a slower, more controlled release; but never spent the money to find out.

I bought a cheap floor jack from harbor freight (the non-low profile kind) and it lasted me about 2 years. I'm looking for a new one now and will probably go with craftsman.

what I like about my craftsman is that it's super beefy and heavy and I don't have to worry about it getting beat up. The only thing I don't like (besides the sudden drop/release) is that the little cradle where the jack contacts the axle or whatever your jacking point is, there is no rubber it's just a steel cradle, but that doesn't make much difference really.
