Welding confusion
I was going to weld the 8.25 and Dana 30 axles tube to the housing today im using a lincoln 125 pro mig. Im running .30 flux core wire i preheated the axles with a oxy acetylene torch for some reason both the ground clamp were it was clamped was bare metal clean and were i was welding was bare metal clean. It would not strike an arc no matter what i did any where else i tried striking an arc it would strike but why wont it strike an arc near the tube and the housing?

Some thing wrong with welder or bad ground. When the spot Im grounding to is questionable I will attach a pair of vicegrips and put my ground clamp on them.
Next the machine you using is to small to do a decent job on the welds but preheating will help a tad.

I preheated it a decent amount about 750 with an infrared thermometer i guess its a bad ground it has to be and at one point it made a small arc then just stopped
