I can still get the pin in and out. Yes it deff does lock it.

I am sure there is more than plenty welt there to hold, it would be welded in eight spots. All it has to do is keep the gears from turning.

depending on what size tires you are running, if you drive it on pavement at all id be a little worried. the weld will be put under tremendous strain while turning.

personally, since 8.25 carriers are so plentyfull i would weld it to the carrier just for a little more strength. because if that weld breaks (not saying that it will, just a precaution) the broken chunk could take out something like the pinion or ring gear.

but, if the penatration is good enough you will be alright with what you have

It's welded right and it's a 8.25 c-clip. I drive it to Rausch creek all the time and that's 80 miles one way with 33's

cool, im assuming you havnt driven it there yet with it welded.

its just paranoia for me, carriers like that are very cheap. so i dont mind welding the spiders to the carrier.

its fine to do BUT you go thru tires alot faster AND you put alot of stress on your drivetrain
