i dont think anyone here works for powertrax. You are getting short responses because you came in here blaming the locker and this and that when most likely something was screwed up or missed during install. Most or all of the people that have answered to this thread own a no-slip and ALL have been saying either theirs works fine or they broke it installing and now it works fine. IF the locker was faulty from the factory, they would replace it with a new one.

You got short answers because you short mindedly posted a negative thread about a locker that very few have had bad luck with besides the install. Dont blame the forum for giving you the right answer instead of consoling you on your "waste of money"

Quote: I just ordered an Auburn to replace this so called locker. I just wanted to have some more traction, and had more with the open rear. What waste of $400.
What exactly did you order from Auburn?
ECTED?
(It's not a true mechanical locker, you're going to be disappointed after it starts slipping when it's engaged)

LSD? (Auburn makes a good one that's for sure, but eventually the clutches will wear out and you'll be left with an Open Diff.)

In another thread you started you stated that it made a loud popping noise and you felt it in the driveline. ( not exact words). You also said you could hear the locker trying to lock up but it wouldn't. Sounds to me like it was installed wrong. Find out what's really going on before you knock a product when it's possible it was user error. (not saying you don't know how to install it, but it is possible that it was installed incorrectly)

What got me going was their tech support. I was polite, and just told them what it was doing. I got no help from them. If they politely told me I broke a paddle or something like that it would have been better. The first words out of their mouth was "You have a bad carrier, or bent houseing." I tried to ask if it could be anything else, but that was all this guy kept repeating. I have dealt with other customer service. Crossman air guns in New York. They were pleasant, and very helpful. Problem solved in under ten minutes. OH, I can replace clutches.

Bad tech support can really break a good company product. Ive been there too, friend. But there were also other people on the forum that have had problems and tech support helped them. Maybe you should call back and speak to someone else.

Quote: The Auburn or Eaton are both clutch carriers. ....... Next time I listen to the mechanics, and guys at the shop, they have only been doing this since '79.
Ummmm........

No, you are misinformed.

The ECTED is a LSD with an Electromagnet that causes greater force to be applied to the clutch packs. It does not mechanically lock the axles together. and Yes I've seen them slip when engaged.

the Eaton e-Locker is a true mechanical locker that uses and electromagnet to move a ball-ramp that in turn causes the left and right shafts to become together.

Not only do I sell the E-Lockers, I also run them in both my front and rear axles and have done so since 2008.

I also sell the Powertrax No-Slip and Lockrite lockers. I've got plenty of real world experience with both of them. Wheeling and installing them.

You won't find any Auburn ECTED's on my site...ever. I've seen them slip when the owners need them the most. You couldn't pay me enough to sell 'em.

So you want to listen to the guys in the shop, you're call. BUT, you owe it to yourself to reread this entire thread with an open mind and no ego to prevent you from learning something.

Many folks here have shared their experiences with you regarding common mistakes and even stepped up and stated that they screwed the pooch all by themselves....and still swear by the NoSlip after installing it the right way.

Lot's of great advice and info here, if you care to use it.

I have calmed down a lot. I am still taking it out next week. I will drive it easy till then. I only have a 2 1/2 lift with 30x9.50x15 tires. I don't really need much more, plus I have two blown out knees from motorcycle accidents. I think the Auburn will be much more what I want. I tried to cheap out, and it bit me. Like old guy across the street says " You're never too old to learn something stupid". You gotta love people that are almost 90, they just say what they want. LOL

FWIW,
Installing a full case locker or LSD will cost far more than the no-Slip.

Pull it, inspect it, and replace whatever is broken, re-install it.

I PROMISE...You'll love it.

I'm just getting what you would call a regular limited slip. No Electric, or air locker. I hope I did not call it a locker, because it is not going to be a locker. When the no-slip locked, it locked. I was trying to pull a fence post out with it, and put the back wheels in the wheel wells. It also lifted the driver side front wheel off the ground. When locked it seemed to be really strong.

I already spent the money. Bought, and payed for. It is just going to come out next week. I just wish service would have been better. If they had told me that maybe I broke a paddle, I may have kept it. I would have at least taken it apart to look.

Quote: Agreed... there are parts of the instructions that are so vague...
Had to be better than the instructions that came with my Spartan. Box contained a sticker and a warranty card. Had to watch a video on the correct installation.
