Vibes on every gear but 4th....ok now a little in 4th too
87, 4.0 with 5 speed BA trans and 231 tcase. 3" lift, 1" tcase drop (don't ask).
The crappy BA trans has been making noise (whirring, probably bearings) for the longest time, I'm expecting it to go out. However until this morning its been fine except the noise.
Today on the way to work I started getting nasty vibes. At first it was the worst in 3rd, and was fine in 4th, but by the time I got to work it really didn't matter. However, no more noise than normal from the transmission.
Could it be the u joints that I'm sure need to be changed? Or do I go right at the trans and save myself the time?

Pinion looks good to me, I wouldn't expect that to be the issue. With an SYE your front and rear shaft should both be aligned with the driveshaft and not the output yoke of the transfer case. You typically would want your pinion in the back to be just slightly lower for natural axle wrap
