I have been looking into this upgrade and everyone says it works great. The problem I am finding is when I look at the kits online and search for an 85 Jeep Cherokee with 2.5L all the kits come back listed for the 151 cid Hurricane engine(the GM with intake and exhaust on opposites sides of the head).

Is this the kit everyone gets or am I missing something somewhere? I need the linkage adapters for the auto trans but if the carb is for the wrong side of the engine will that work? The kits I am finding are the K552 part number, has anyone else used this kit, or possibly know of another part number?

Why in the world would you want to replace fuel injection with a carburetor?!?!

Why? Massive increase in torque.

This is a MPI intake converted to TBI.

I'm choosing to retain TBI for the sake of efficiency and to not hassle with the float on inclines nor the expense of chasing some sidedraft dream.

At least one other has gone this route with a reported increase in torque.

Mixing fuel and air at the plenum vs at the port....long runners.......more bottom end.

 

If you dig deep deep deep into the interwebs...you might find a loose Clifford intake and you use the carb of your choosing.

OR:

See pic above and use the single barrel or you could go two barrel with the right adapter but you'll need to get creative and make up your own.

 

I already has the single barrel YFA, I am wanting to upgrade to the Weber two barrel.

 

Now that link actually lists the K552 as being for the 150cid and a different kit for the 151cid. Another link I found had that kit listed as being for the 151cid and never mentioned the 150cid and it was a Redline kit.

I am always cautious about those because I once helped a friend rebuild a 2.5L in an 83 CJ5 and when we got the kit in I tried to put the rod bearings in they were too big, then I look at the pistons and scratched my head, said hmmm, and dropped on in the cylinder and it was bigger than the hole lol. Place he ordered the parts from got the engine kits switched up.

Will that be going into an XJ? If so where did you find the headers?

That is a nice looking setup, I might have to look into one of those intakes in the future.
