Okay so I found a Dana 30 on craigslist. For $60 it is HP out of an XJ. But he doesn't know what year. It does not have the vacuum disconnect. Does anybody know if there is any way to tell if it has the bigger u joints. Like a measurement or something. The reason I want to buy it is to use the shafts to eliminate the disco on my father in law's YJ. And maybe use the HP30 housing for the TJ.

Okay. Thank you serious. I got about a 50/50 shot. So I hope they are 297's. Cause he said he would take $50. That's a he'll of a deal around here for a complete axle. If I'm really lucky, it would have 4.10's

297/760
Dimension A = 2.188 inches ( 2 3/16 inches )
Dimension B = 2.188 inches ( 2 3/16 inches )
Dimension C = 1.188 inches ( 1 3/16 inches )
Dimension D = 1.188 inches ( 1 3/16 inches )

260
Dimension A = 2.188 inches ( 2 3/16 inches )
Dimension B = 2.188 inches ( 2 3/16 inches )
Dimension C = 1.062 inches ( 1 1/16 inches )
Dimension D = 1.062 inches ( 1 1/16 inches )

Just buy it. That isn't going to last long no matter what size the u joints are.

I plan on it, the problem is that we have conflicting work schedules. I may have to send the old lady over there while I'm at work.

What do you mean? I know. But if it is the small u joints. And 3.55 I can't really do anything with it. Because I don't want to replace the 2 piece with a solid shaft that still has the weak u joints. And if it is3.55 we can't use it for the tj, because we are not planning to regear it unless it's to 4.10 with factory axles that already have that ratio. Therefore as soon as I can take a look at it. I will buy it if it is either 4.10 or has the 297 joints.

What size tires? Plans for a Front locker? I'd buy it regardless of ujoint size or 4.10 gearing.
$50 is cheap I'd verify ball joints and unit bearings are ok otherwise you're sinking some $$$ into it

If I used it, unit bearings could be transferred from the LP on the tj. I plan on buying it. If I can get to it tomorrow.

I didn't buy it. No brakes, hubs were locked up. Slop in diff, 3.07 gearing, it did have the 297's but they were completely destroyed. I just didn't want to deal with it.
