While I'm well aware of the teralow fork offered by teraflex. I see a unique use out of isolating the 2 available functions in the factory 231 tcase.
Yes what I'm doing is kinda complicating an already solved task. However i enjoy the challenge of re-inventing this wheel to a small degree.
Gotta love the hatred for calling it twin stick when it's clearly not the intended function of how we all mostly treat the term.
Soo to be clear. I'm trying to utilize 2wd/4wd on one shift lever and then utilize high range/low range on the other
To the ney sayers of what XJMJ is up to; twin stick independent high low 2 - 4 operation is nothing new. People have been tossing the interlock pins out of Dana 18 transfer cases to do just that since 1941.
I finally decided to dig a spare tcase out from the shed and see how if this idea of mine actually works
Nothing special thus far, just a quick dissassemble and view of the original components
Original fork vs 3D printed parts
Well that fits nicely in there
Wouldnt you know it, though these parts are 3D printed the daen thing actually works!
soo I'm playing around with scrap metal and making some crude steel pieces to further more verify proof of concept.
Not gonna lie it's exciting to see some simple hair brained idea actually functioned as intended. The bigger test will be once it is make out of steel - installing it in a vehicle and further testing it's practical use.
I'll update more when I have the crude steel pieces in hand
You get this working and I would be interested to pick up a set of these forks. I have had a few times 2wd low would have been handy.
I daydream about installing a 205/203 doubler, but just can't bring myself to drop that kind of coin.
We will see what happens, there is natural amount of thought "well I could sell these!?" But then again I don't stride much for production/business.
I have had many days of working and day dreaming about doubler setups but im in the same boat as you, i dont want to commit that much $ and then also to change crosmmember/belly skid setup, also new driveshafts. That's a bit much $ atm
