Default Turbo questions

I am considering building my 4.0l and turboing it. My question is does anyone see this as a bad idea? I would much rather turbo than supercharge it. Do you think it would be "too" much power for the trails?

Everything I'm about to saw below aside, no, a TC'd 4.0 will not have too much power. If you can make it happen, go for it.

Turbo done right is a tremendous amount of effort and can cost as much as a second XJ. To my knowledge, 505 is the only company that provides anything resembling a kit for the XJ, and it still requires some modifications to get it to fit.

Superchargers can be a little less work and money but still not cheap. Here's another usefulish link if you can deal with the nightmare of navigating and reading it--http://jeepm62superchargerkit.blogspot.com/

Strokers or LSx swaps are another option with lots of possibilities, but still plenty of money and effort.

Frankly, there is only one real reason to do a TC, SC, stroker, or swap--cuz you just plain want to. They all have pros and cons. In that case, no one can really make the decision for you. I reject the idea that you "need" to do it for more power. The 4.0 is a plenty adequate powerhouse for the XJ even armored and on trails assuming it is geared appropriately.

My personal plan is to wait until my 4.0 starts to die on me at which point I'll rebuild it in some sort of mini or full stroker. I'd LOVE to do a turbo, and even if money wasn't a problem, I just don't have the fab skills to make it happen sadly.
