Are you referring to CAD, control arm drop brackets? They relocate both uppers and lowers. The brace for drop brackets is mandatory on the XJ.

At 5.5" of lift, drop brackets would greatly improve the ride. Control arms should be near parallel to the ground for optimum ride and articulation.

Parallel is the neutral state of arms and will allow them to easily pivot when a bump is encountered and allows the suspension to absorb it. When the jeep is lifted, the arms are at an upward angle which transfers much more of the road/trail directly into chassis rather than suspension.
Also, when the axle droops, the arms will want to tuck back and under the jeep and resist returning.

Awesome and clear advise, thanks! I was going to go around these but I will purchase them instead. Now with bump stops, what would be an estimate length for my setup?

To get it correct your going to have to measure when you have the setup is installed.

What SYE/driveshaft and gears lockers did you use?

You need an SYE before you do anything else a TC drop is worthless at that height as well as other mods required.

If this rig is your daily driver than I would not recommend 4.88 with 33"s. If it's trail only, than by all means.
4.56 would better, some even prefer 4.10 for 33" for their daily driver.
