If you can why not? I typically like to overbuild, and if your already fabbing stuff might as well!

At the minimum you need to weld the housing to the tubes.

Why not get some 2x4 or 2x6 box tubing and build your own truss?

Noob moment...

What is the point of trussing the axle? Just added strength?

I bought my 8.8 off a guy who used it in his pre runner and jumped and jumped and jumped...
its fine. these things are tough. why add more weight? x2 on welding tubes to housing though

I wouldn't be surprised it you have a tweaked axle tube if it was jumped a bunch.

If I was doing the swap I would add the truss and weld the tubes, Also the added weight down low will help keep the COG down lower not to mention the added strength.

Nice job. Came out good. What cover are you running? It looks like it a bearing cap support type like an LPW.

Truss it. It's the perfect time, it's out of the vehicle and it looks like you've got welding to do for the spring perches, etc., so why not.

That's a T/A Performance girdle cover with bearing cap supports. Looks like the older style. They're the best covers I've ever used on the 8.8. Excellent cooling as well.

100%

You probably don't need to truss it for mild wheeling but there is the piece of mind that you took the extra step when building it...why not.
