Sweet deal! Glad to hear you found one locally.

Sounds obvious but change the fluid anyways while you have it out. Invest in a stubby 9/16" ratcheting wrench if you don't have one.

91 and older is one cut year..(21 spline) and the 92+ is the 2nd cut year..(23 spline) the only thing that changed in the 231 t-cases from 95-96 is the sealed tail housing... 95 and older is an open tail housing and 96-newer is a sealed tail housing. direct swap. a 242 tcase will work just the same.. but will need the shift linkage adjusted and the dash light won't read 4 part time is all. it will instead read 4 full time in both part and full time positions.
I thought the year split was -90 21 spline 91+ 23 spline. I hope so because I just put a sye in a 95 tcase to put in my 91... ****.

"The AW4 had 21 splines through 1990. In 1991 (the same year the 4.0 HO was introduced) the AW4 splines increased to 23."

So I should be good then. I thought I covered my ground on this back before I got the 95 tcase. Thanks salad.

yeah I'm using the fluid I bought when I thought all I needed was to change fluid in the old one. I'm using a mix of ATF+4 and Lucas transmission fix fluid
