okay i have a 97 sport with the 242? it has 2 hi, 4 part time, 4 full time, and 4 low. when i put it in any 4 wheel option sometimes it wants to pop out and sometimes it doesnt. but everytime i go back to 2hi its hard to get back in i have to slam it. i do have a transfer case drop and i have tried adjusting the rod about 20 different times with no succes. i really want to no if the transfer case with 2hi 4hi and 4lo options would fit right in? everytime i read into it everyone says there different splines and all. so my question is what are my transfer case options?

 

as far as im aware your year will have 23 splines..so a np231 will fit inplace of your np242...the 231 case is alittle smaller so ull get better ground clearance

 

okay and 242 would be the one i have now ? and any ideas why it would be popping out of all the 4x4 options? also what year 231's are 23 spline or are all of them?

 

Another thing to keep in mind when looking for a np231 is you need to get one with the same length input shaft. They have three different lengths.
