Default Trans cooler lines

I got a trans cooler from the yard and I know I ll buy new rubber hoses.

I see there's quick discos on metal tubes to the rubber lines. How would I clamp the new hoses to it if I saw the metal ends off ? What did u guys do when u installed the trans cooler?

Also would it be ok if I set the trans cooler vertical with the hose connections on the bottom instead of horizontal with hose connections on the side?

You'll need 3/8" ID rubber hose. You can mount it any way you like, I did the same thing and the fittings on the trans cooler are vertical pointing down.

What about the metal tubes coming from radiator and the transmission. They have quic disconnects and I wouldn't fit the tubes over it. I probably would have to cut the ends off but what can I do to keep the rubber hoses from slipping off? I think two clamps probably won't be enough

There really isn't that much pressure, one clamp will be fine. I'll go snap a pic right now.

I had another car, Oldsmobile 88. The one clamp wasn't enough to hold the tube on he metal line, it keep getting off by the pressure of the fluid inside, Two clamps worked, but the metal tube had a lip on the end that help hold the rubber hose on....

Should I braze a ring on the end of tube after cutting so the rubber hose would have something to slip over and then clamped to?

The quick disconnect line was cuz on the tubing and the other was cut back far enough to route the new hose from. I left the old tubes in place in case I ever want to run the original and aux cooler together.

I use 2 fuel injection clamps PER end , no issues. I have had lines blow off/apart also.

If you're concerned about the lines blowing off, you can always flare the ends and use compression fittings and barb fittings

If I was that concerned I would build 2 new lines.

I have two sizes of trans cooler. Which one should I use on my xj? I would assume the smaller one because of less air flow restriction but I just wanted to see what your opinions are...
