Hi, I am installing a high efficiency tranny cooler , can I bypass the rad cooler altogether ( outside temp does not get colder than - 5'C ) and its not my DD. This way tranny will run cooler, not being heated by eng' coolant and eng' will run cooler on hot days also . Thanks Eric

 

U can but most people add the cooler in line I have one on my trail rig and it added. More fluid and the engine actually started running cooler if I bypassed the radiator I would make sure its a BIG cooler and have good rubbber lines

 

I don't remember the exact number, but trans fluids need to be about 125 degrees to operate correctly (lubricate per specs). I would suggest that you exit the Radiator, then run it through the cooler, then back to the transmission.

I have the triple threat radiator with 3 E fans by ffdynamics and in their instructions they recommend that you by pass the trans cooler in the radiator. Both will run cooler which is more beneficial when rolling along in 4 low all day. The most effective trans coolers are the type with a built in shroud and electric fan but there is not enough room for one.

 

Trans cooler should be run in-line with a bypass control unit. This allows the trans to warm up, then when she gets hot the bypass opens and directs the fluid to the secondary cooler.

Another school of thought, run just the secondary cooler but also run a bypass that directs the fluid back to the trans till it warms up.

Whatever you do, you do not want the trans to run too cold. And YES in Canada during the winter it will run way too cold.

 

Yeah this is what Ive settled on too. I have been reading non stop on this. because you hear soo many differnet opnions. But general consensus from several sites left me on how to route the cooler on that note ( what he said above )
