Default tranny upgrade?

Well it looks like i am getting a new transmission...i have a 1990 5 speed cherokee sport and was wondering, since i am on the market for a new tranny should i be looking for something better than oem? I am slowly trying to make this thing my full time rock rig. Is stock oem strong enough to last or is there something better that would work better?

there are so many other weak points that its very doubtful you'll have issues with the AX15 first. I'd worry about axle shafts and the transfer case first. Just do a fresh rebuild and you'll be solid.

agreed. The AX-15 is a very solid transmission that's hard to beat

only downfall I've had with my AX15 is the internal slave, I'd be looking to convert to external.

Yoy want to build a full time rock rig.... basically your goal will be to replace and upgrade everything in the steering and suspension and the complete drivetrain except the trans and motor.
