Okay so im about to throw some 33's on my xj and at the end of december i am going on a road trip from florida to virgina. I know it is wise to get a tranny cooler with bigger tires, but do i REALLY need a tranny cooler before the trip or will it be okay? Its an aw4 and was rebuilt around 4,000 miles ago.

i've ran larger tires (31's at the least and 36's at my max) on my cherokee's/comanche for years now and have made many 2-7hr trips without issues.... its more your own decision on if it SHOULD be done or not... we don't know nothing about your jeep or its qwerks or faults. If your jeep drives fine with no trans issues the i wouldn't worry about it.
Depends how do you drive and what are the roads like? If there is a bunch of hills and you must maintain the exact speed. Then there is a good chance you will burn your fluid. If you just take it easy and basically try to save gas then you shouldn't need one. I would just put one in and not use the one in the rad any way. Its one of the first things I do when I get a new Jeep. It only takes 15-20 min and it only cost around $60 at the most. To me its more of a question of why not do it. As far as I know better is still better.
