It's not worth the ~$18 less per wheel to get a brand that may have issues. Pro Comp and Cragar are two of the most widely used wheels, and here are two styles of them in 2 different backspacings for just less than $60 a piece. Or you can check craigslist/forum classifieds for used options. If you find some that are a little rusty, you can get them dirt cheap and break out your wire wheel and paint.

There are tangible differences between the various steel wheels. Simply put, a cheap wheel is not the value it's cracked up to be.

Bump up your budget and save until you can afford a set of wheels that won't bend the first time you go wheeling.

A better quality steel wheel is the Cragar Soft Eights for not a lot more. Make sure you get the right size a 15x8" with 3.75" of BS and you will need 5 of them Summit and Jegs both have them also with free shipping.

I have 5 of them sitting in my driveway waiting to get tires installed (hopefully this week).

I was also concerned I ordered them but they look really good.

I mounted one on the front and spun to see that it runs really true.

It is a Chinese steel wheel but I don't see how anyone else's is going to be significantly better.

Material thickness for starters.

How true the center of the wheel is to outer rim.

Without any details on how the brand name wheels are better it's really just guess work unless the differences are obvious when compared side by side but even then you don't know what type of steel was used, how it was formed, etc. Even the term "forged" is often misused and misunderstood since there are a few different types of forging processes on wheels. My guess though having dealt in quality wheels for 20+ years is that most of the brand name steel wheels are made at the same factories in China.

I put a set of cheap D-Hole rims on my son's old XJ. They were the super-cheap red and blue stripe versions that a lot people buy. First time we ran a semi-difficult trail 2 of the wheels weren't spinning true. Bent the centers without even trying. Replaced them as soon as we could.

Go to your favorite tire and wheel store and do a side by side comparison. Ya justify learn a little something about the quality of the various brands.

These seem pretty heavy duty. I'll measure the thickness when I get home. If I have any concerns, it is that they are heavy. ~28lbs IIRC.

As I said, I mounted one on a front wheel and spun it. There was <1/32" of runout at the rim so mounting holes are true.

The wheels are not hub centric.

Yeah but I also know guys who have run the cheap steelies in the trail for years without issue. So it depends on the use. But my guess is that a $100.00 steelie is not any stronger than a $40.00 one.

These were already on mine when I purchased it, I have no clue what brand they are.
