My guess though having dealt in quality wheels for 20+ years is that most of the brand name steel wheels are made at the same factories in China.

Its a fact indeed and not just wheels!

I'm all for buying name-brand wheels, but the Cragars in the same size (but different backspacing) are listed as 28 lbs as well. However, weight isn't the only factor. I know a little bit about metallurgy, and anyone who welds knows that you can drastically change a metals properties just by heating it up and cooling it down at different rates. So my understanding is that even though two "steel" wheels have the same approximate weight and dimensions, they won't have the same physical properties. Also steel is in quotations here because "steel" doesn't mean **** when it comes to telling you what something is made of. Look up knife blade steels (as an example) and tell me that all steel is the same.

At this point, I'm honestly reaching here and just trying to justify my earlier statement that I would rather get the well-known brand. There may not be a difference at all, but we can't confirm or deny that without some extensive testing in a lab. What I can say is that Cragar and the like have very good reputations, and for something as important as a wheel, I would rather spend less than $20 more to get a product I know I can trust. If you're buying 5 wheels, that's not even $100 a set difference, and buys peace of mind. This is just my personal preference though.

Fun fact: Pro Comps steelies are cheaper on their website than from Summit. Not what I expected.

Talk to people locally that wheel the same trails that you do. Ask them what works, what breaks, and what to avoid.

Well I wish I ordered the trailmasters instead of the black rock. I ordered from summit and got them quick but all 4 were scratched really bad from the center cap rolling around in the box. They sent me another set and it was the same way. Very disappointed in quality

I've had great luck with procomp rockcrawler wheels I ran one set from 2003-2010 before i bought new ones that were 8" wide. Vs the 10" wide ones I had. My buddy ran them on his trail rig 2010-2014 they are rock Rashed to hell but still strait.

Once you have had them on the trails a few times they will look worse than that rest assured.

Summit is sending another set, they said they are going to take the center cap out. I paid almost $300 to get the better steel wheels and I want to scratch them myself, not come in already scratched

If it were me I would have been on the phone to a supervisor in customer service wanting to know how much they were going to discount these wheels as I were tired of waiting, and shipping back and forth only to be sold with a heavy discount once they got them back

It is a Chinese steel wheel but I don't see how anyone else's is going to be significantly better.
Did you get these on? I'm interested in opinions on the wheels also.

They are on my jeep with a set of ATZp3 31x10.5-15s installed.

Fit and finish seem as good as any other black steel wheels. I have no concerns or regrets.
