Stock uses a regular ball joint end to mount to the "frame" end, allowing very little movement/drop, and the double shear changes the ball joint mount to polyurethane bushing end which allows as much articulation as your suspension will handle.

not only does it allow for more flex but the bushings are said to not wear out as fast as the Tie rod ends do.
