Track bar mounting bracket repair ideas
I noticed during my lift installation that the bracket on the passenger side front axle where the track bar mounts, the whole is oval shaped now. I am guessing that had played a factor in my sloppy steering and death wobble issues in the past. I would like to repair it somehow so that its no longer oval shaped, but a regular hole like originally intended. Here are the ideas I have had so far.
1. Weld a grade 8, hardened washer onto the bracket to restore the original hole location and shape.
2. Weld a piece of flat steel with a hole drilled in it to the bracket
3. Cut off the entire bracket, build an entirely new one, reinstall
How have you guys fixed this on your vehicles? I can't believe this is a rare occurence. Pictures would be great! Thanks.

are you using the stock track bar or an adjustable one? if stock, you need to relocate it anyway.

Drill out the hole in the mount. Mine's ½" now. Drill out the sleeve that goes in the bushing for the track bar. Get proper-sized grade 8 hardware. I used a nylock nut on mine.

All good ideas. The 1/2" option might be the easiest right now. I plan to build up a new d30, can do a more permanent option on that one in the meantime.

I'm a cheapskate. My XJ is built largely with second-hand parts. I only go new when absolutely necessary. I did spend the extra $15 or so to get the IRO solid bar over the the RC DOM bar.
I think going up to ½" is a good permanent fix. I torqued mine to 60 ft lbs with the big bolt and all seems well.

I found out my track bar axle slot is actually made for a 1/2 bolt, upgraded and it's now solid and firm. No more delay steering!
