HAs anybody swapped a TR-4050 into an XJ, I'm gathering parts for a manual Swap and trying to decide if its even possible to do this. I'd much prefer the gearing over the Ax-15 and it would make for a much stronger transmission behind a future LS swap. I did search but found no threads on the topic. thank you for any input!
I have not, but I have swapped an NP435 into a Full Size Jeep. The TR4050 is (essentially) the 435 with OD. Not really, but sorta.
Anyway, it would be a HEFTY upgrade. Not that you'll be breaking an AX15 that frequently, and the 4050 is much larger. Not even sure it'll fit under an XJ.
You'll need a T176 bell from an old 258. It has the "Ford butterfly" bolt pattern (like the TR4050). You'll also need an adapter pilot bushing from Novak-Adapt.

Silversport Transmission has all the required components for the swap (TJ 4.0) new Bellhousing and all the components I need for the swap shipped to my door for ~5k. It is a hefty upgrade, but that sweet 6.16:1 first gear 🤌🏼Originally Posted by agreen

Yeah that 6.68:1 of the NP435 is pretty slick.
That's awesome thar SST has all that in a kit.
Here are the 2 concerns I have:
1) does it physically fit an XJ. I, unfortunately, don't have the answer. I've put it behind a 258 in an 81 J10, but the tunnel *might* not support that trans. You might have to drop the trans down a little.
2) what spline count is the output? My 435 is a 32 spline, so I had to cobble together an NP208AM (J10 transfer case) and an NP208F (F150 transfer case) to make it work.

I’m not opposed to moving it down bit or modding the tunnel a little bit to make it work. The output is standard 23 spline Mopar and a 231J will bolt right up with no issues as per SST. I need to get the trans out and take some measurements I suppose. Originally Posted by agreen
