what's the benefit of a F250 d44 over a waggy d44?

Advantage:

High pinion.

Slight differences not really advantages:

Width
Bolt Pattern
Knuckle configurations

Primarily the outers are different.

oh - never realized the waggy 44 was LP. Is that just for the rear? Or is the front waggy 44 LP also?

The early 70's F100/150 and F250 axles are high pinion and the tubes are a massive 1/2" thick.

Yup. LP front. Mine is low pinion but I've never really had an issue with it. Sure HP would be great but do just fine with it like it is.

Agreed. HP is ideal.. But I think people buy into the LP is "weak" to easy. Lots of people run them without issues.

true, but if I'm going to do a full swap, i'd rather have the stronger reverse cut gears and more clearance for the pinion

Nothing wrong with that. If I did it again I'd go HP but at the time the extra work wasn't worth it.

If I did it again I'd narrow a HP 44 Ford housing and run Waggy shafts.

Actually, if I did it again I'd build a 60 and be done with it.

x2. at the time narrowing and turnin the knuckles seamed out of my skill level so I went with the LP waagy axle. I do not regret it by any stretch... But if I where to do it again I would do as stated above.

14 bolt rear, shaved.
538 gears, welded carrier

wagoneer 44 front lp
yukon 513 gears, lock right, chromo inner and stub shafts, trussed

waggy 44 is getting swapped to a 60 before i drive it again.

the shaved 14 bolt has better clearance than the ford 9 housing sitting in my garage.

Hello everyone! First time posting. I have a 98 zj 4wd that I have left stock. Done extensive off road driving with this jeep. Over 200k miles logged and now ready for a new rear axle?. I rebuilt the rear my self previously but now 1 yr later the back axle
is rattling pretty bad and by hand can move the wheels with the shafts back and forth. It's a Dana 35 and was wondering if there is a manual, video or thread explaining the steps to replace for the home mechanic/ welder. Thinking about a ford 8.8?? Just starting my research....
