Torquing U-Bolt Nuts on Zone Lift Kit?
Hi All -
Working on installing my Zone 4.5" Lift on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) Sport this weekend and I've got a few questions:
Fist question, in the Zone instructions the last two steps for the Rear part of the install read:
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Working on installing my Zone 4.5" Lift on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) Sport this weekend and I've got a few questions:
Fist question, in the Zone instructions the last two steps for the Rear part of the install read:
20. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle to the ground.
21. Bounce the rear of the vehicle to settle the suspension. Torque the u-bolts to 75-90 ft-lbs. Torque the front leaf spring hanger bolts to 115 ft-lbs. Torque the upper and lower shackle bolts to 80 ft-lbs.
21. Bounce the rear of the vehicle to settle the suspension. Torque the u-bolts to 75-90 ft-lbs. Torque the front leaf spring hanger bolts to 115 ft-lbs. Torque the upper and lower shackle bolts to 80 ft-lbs.
- My Question is, since I've put the wheels back on, how do I gain access to the U-Bolt nuts to torque them down? I'm assuming it's okay to torque them down before I put the tires back on and then I'll just torque the shackle and leaf spring bolts down with the weight of the vehicle on the springs. Is that correct, or shoud I try to torque the U-Bolt nuts after I put the tires back on?
- What is the best way to "Bounce the rear of the vehicle"? Should I just stand on my rear bumper and force the cherokee up and down with my weight? Is that safe?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!

No, do not torque any of the bolts until the jeep is on the ground. Run all the bolts until snug tight while on Jack stands. It's a tight fit but you can get to the ubolt nuts from the wheel well. You might need a extension on the socket.

I agree. I put the tires back on mine. Lowered to the ground, mine was on a lift. Then tightened everything up. Just used a creeper to get under it a little better.

Sorry dude, I know we exchanged words earlier on a different subject, and no disrespect is intended here, but this is probably the worst advice ever. Yes, it was put in as a safety thing, and while it covers their ***, it is still good advice. Jack stands can be dangerous even when used properly. I personally have known 2 people who have been crushed and killed by their rides, and they followed the letter of the law on the use of jack stands. Take the extra time and put the tires on. It's not worth your life. You got lucky one time already, why push your luck? Just my deuce coppers...
