Default Tooth pattern check

This is the new ring and pinion with factory shims.
Backlash is pretty tight at .0035

Would this be a good pattern if my backlash was more loose? Or does the pattern need to be more spread out?

I think that is a pretty decent pattern. I'd run it if the BL is in spec. Just make sure your bearings are pressed on correctly and add any other shims to add carrier preload if applicable to the axle you're working on.

It's been a few years since I set up gears, but isn't 0.0035 a little tight for back lash? Aren't you looking for a little more around 0.010"? Correct me if I'm wrong

I believe it is 6 to 10 thousandths. This is with stock shims, but I'm waiting on a bearing before I mess with adjusting anything

Yeah, you want between .006-.010" of backlash. Too tight and the diff will eat itself up once it gets warm.

Do you think when I adjust the back lash it will mess with the pattern too much?

Honestly you aren't too far off, you should be able to correct your backlash and still have a good pattern
