Default TJ Rubicon NV3550 and NP241OR in an XJ?

I have a chance to buy an NV3550 and NP241OR out of a TJ Rubicon and am seriously considering swapping them into my 1996 XJ that currently has an AX15. I’m reading that the TJ/XJ transmissions are clocked differently, but I’m not seeing how much. I’m also finding conflicting information on shifter linkage and VSS compatibility. I actually have 4:10’s and 31’s currently, maybe the VSS will be a match? Does anyone have any knowledge they can share on the other potential issues like clocking and body clearance?

I am almost positive that I know somebody who did this.
Here is his build thread.
But it was in a '97 so not sure how much this will help.
Also not sure how much detail he went into.
And so you know he has not been around in awhile.
Last I heard was out of the country serving his country.
So contacting if you have any questions is hit or miss.

The NV3550 wouldn't be an upgrade over the AX15. The NP241 would be bit you may have to swap input shafts and redrill the case so it is clocked right, not sure when but sometime in the early 2000s they moved the speed sensor from the transfer case to the rear axle, so you might have to swap tailhousings as well for your speedometer to work.

I've never looked into this that closely, but I know its been done. The 241OR part at least. I'm unsure about the transmission.

Everything I've seen about swapping the t-case has talked about dealing with the speed sensor and how much of a pain it becomes.

Were they swapping in JK cases by any chance? I have a chance to buy a TJ Rubicon case that has a speed sensor, but it uses a tone ring and sounds like it’s not adjustable if I change gearing.

You can adjust it with one of these: https://www.polyperformance.com/heal...e-xj-shv4a-j01

Might be some other modules on the market, but that's the one I used.
