I have a '98 XJ, auto, with a 3in lift and 31' MT tires. and when i turn the wheel all the way to either side the tires are rubbing. would wheel spacers fix this problem?

1.25 SpiderTrax Spacers will cure the rub, I've almost 100000 miles on in all weather, holding up great, remember to torque, gotem from Quadratech, good price and delivered in a week.

isnt proper back spacing the correct fix for this?
I wouldnt put spacers on mine. common sense says it adds unwanted stress
I just checked, crappy set of spacers is like 60 bucks. wheels are $200. your call

I put the 1.5" spacers from Rough Country on mine. Lots cheaper than other brands and I couldn't discern any difference in quality from one brand to the next. Mine have been on for two months with 15X8 Jeep Ravine wheels and Firestone Destination 235/75 15's and a 2" lift on there. No problems, other than some slight rubbing under hard turn when backing out of the driveway. The tires were just BARELY rubbing the plastic inner fender at about the 9 O'Clock position. A couple of zip ties to suck in the plastic fixed that!
USE BLUE LOCTITE to mount spacers!! And, use a torque wrench to apply proper lug nut torque to spacer mounting nuts!! Don't "eyeball" this! Lastly, it wouldn't hurt to smear some anti-seize on the backside of the spacers before installing them. You know, to make it easier when it comes time to remove them for other work like brakes/bearings/etc.

thanks for all the info! yep looks like that what im going to do. my cousin suggested it but i wasnt quite sure. it gets annoying when im turning hard and i can hear it rubbing.
A set of rough country spacers 4 of them will cost around $140 ball park. New wheels will be $200ish plus mount and balance, usually $10 a tire, unless you know someone that works at a tire shop.

If you decide to go with spacers or a different wheel with smaller backspace, you might have another rubbing problem.....tires rubbing bumper caps when turning.
