Default Tire Opinion: Cooper AT3 vs. Toyo A/T II

Hey all,

I think it is time to move on from my Firestone M/T's. Don't get me wrong, they are a wonderful tire that have performed extremely well, but my XJ is seeing a lot of DD duty, and I want to get something a little less aggressive that's smoother on the road.

With that said, I am looking for good all terrain tires that aren't loud but can handle themselves off road. My "off roading" consists of mountain trails (forestry service roads) mainly, so I don't need anything that's incredibly grippy on slick rocks, etc...

My research (and budget) has led me to the Cooper Discoverer AT3 and the Toyo Open Country A/T II. Both have good mileage warranties, and both have the size I need (245/75/16) in load range C or P, unlike my E-rated Firestone's.

Does anybody have an objective opinion on which tire I should get and why?

Ive got a set of 315/75/16 at3's on my one ton and they have been a great tire so far. They are wearing very even and have had excellent traction in all the stuff I have driven through. Now I havent got mudding with them or anything but they have ben great in the snow rain and muddy fields. They arent loud at all and I would definitely buy another set. Ive got probably 15 k on them and they arent wearing much at all yet. I will probably get them for my xj after this summer.

I've got about 10k on my AT3's and they have worked perfectly from day one. I do a lot of both, highway driving and offroading (rocks, trails, average mud, and even some sand) and I could not complain one bit. Cooper is a good company, that is for sure!

So that's 2 votes for the Coopers. The P245/75/16 will be just fine as far as durability goes, right? I'm not dealing with sharp rocks, etc...

I have a set on my stock xj, I dont do any heavy wheeling or anything but they have about 10k so far on them and I love them. They have done well in mud, rain, snow, and pretty smooth on the highway

I've been in some pretty nasty places with them (look at my pictures) and have never had a problem with them. The durability is amazing.

Sounds like I might be getting the Coopers...they were my original pick until I found the Toyo's, but I don't know much about the Toyo's so I thought I'd ask!

I have the AT3s, I like them

Note the mud coming out from UNDER the hood

They were great in snow, and even pulled this guy out on hard pack, but maybe thats not a challenge with a ZJ. I couldn't even feel he was being towed

Yep, I think I'm sold, especially since I get them for $110 each after Discount Tire's price match.
