If you look around you can find the smitty built & rugged ridge for the same price.

X2.

I have a buddy with a 9500 off brand winch. It works pretty good. So far it is yet to fail him. It looks just like a smitty. It is louder than a smitty though. I got a Tabor 12K winch used for cheap. But if I was going to buy new I would just get the Smitty

Is 250 after 25 percent off or before?

I can't comment on the quality since I don't have one yet. But, get the ESP for it. You'll be covered for that amount of time no matter what. Then if it goes fail, you can upgrade to the 12,000 for the cost difference. That's my plan.

I almost bought a HF winch, until I saw 2 of them on 2 separate vehicles fail the first time they were used. My Smittybilt works every time, and only cost $300.
I don't recommend HF winches after seeing two fail within 5 minutes of use right out of the box.

My coupon says it's the 12000 lb for $299 - 25% on the 4th.

And hopefully it doesn't fail when you need it most...

All winches can fail. We have several guys run them with no problems.

Yes, all winches can fail. I'd rather run one that is less likely to fail...

I've been looking at these also. I found a place with 23 reviews, well the harbor freight site actually, and there were 4 bad reviews (1 star) but the rest were pretty good (3+stars).

I was wondering what weight winch I need for my xj.
I usually use my come along with a block pulley attached to the pull point like a simple block and tackle to lessen the strain on the come along and that is what I will do with the winch.
