Call a tint place and ask them, they will know what's legal and what's not.

all that what's on that site may not be the full extent of the law, however.

for example on that site in my state of illinois is says 35% is the most tint you can have on any window, but that's not true. if you tint the rear darker, you simply must leave the front windows untouched.

Texas... let me tell you a thing about Texas!!!! I lived in the armpit of TEXAZZ for 2 years in El Pizzhole. never had any trouble with the law. the day i was moving out of state 20 miles outside of town East bound on the I-10 i get pulled over by Johnny Law of the Border Partol... TINT'S TO DARK SON!!! no worries, just me n my dog in the XJ, wife is pulled over up ahead with trailer and kid in her truck.

"STEP OUTTA THE CAR SON, WHER"D YOU GET THIS V-HICLE?"
CRAIGSLIST
FROM WHO?
GUY NAMED JOSE
YOU KNOW JOSE??
JUST FROM CRAIGSLIST,I GOT THE TITLE AND REGISTRATION RIGHT THERE IN THE... point to glove box.

GET YOUR HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE EM AND TURN AROUND SON!!!!
I NEED BACK UP into radio
8 minutes later 2 more border truck come flying in from nowhere.

go thorugh the story again with a another officer... then a 4 truck pulls up

MIND IF WE RUNN THE K9 AROUND YOUR V HICLE SON?
GO AHEAD, I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE.
YOU SURE ABOUT THAT SON? AWFUL LOTTA STUFF IN THE BACK OF THAT TRUCK???
SIR I TOLD YOU I WAS MOVING.
WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT SON
(call me son one more time i'm gonna go 187 on a M#(*%^&)

K9 runs around the XJ my dogs going nuts

YOUR DOG REGISTERED WITH THE COUNTY OF EL PIZZHOLE?
(i lied and said yes)

an hour later he lets me go ticket free. tells me when i get to where i'm going to check the local tint laws cause thast why he pulled me over. says he ran the K9 around the truck cuz cartells sell V Hicles on craisglist loaded with dope and let someone else unknowinly drive the dope further outa town he was just trying to protect me cause i look like a clean cut kid (which he could see through my too dark tint???)

DRIVE SAFE NOW SON!

(I, in no way shape or form baggin on Western TX or Law Enforcement just telling a funny story that happend to me while i was there)

Yeah just depends where you live. I've always ran 5% all around and I've lived all over Amarillo Lubbock and Dallas area. Didn't get in any trouble anywhere but on the highways between the cities.. And in Denton. Cops where everywhere though.

I've lived in Texas almost my whole life. I've talked to several cops and here's the deal: Front windows must be 35% or lighter and the back must be 20% or lighter (not 100% sure about the back). The cops I've talked to said that they have bigger things to worry about and usually don't do anything. On the flip side, they said if they're suspicious, they will use it as a reason to conduct a traffic stop. Good luck!

That is a good point. I used to get hassled in my red 98 Z28 with dark tint all the time. But never in my XJ. Friggin cops.

Agent_O, Don't you just love cops with very little situational awareness or threat assesment? lol

Okay let me school yall, I have a "little knowledge" on this subject, but you'll just have to trust me on this one. Only the front two windows have to be 25% or less. The rest don't matter. I personally run 15% all the way around, but I don't have to worry about getting a ticket.
