Default Tail cone compatibility

I'm looking at doing a hack & tap on the 231 in my '89 Cherokee. I was wondering if a '97+ tail cone will bolt on.
I have everything but a way to seal the back of the transfer case.
I've searched but found nothing.

Thanks in advance.

I don't see why you can't. The 5 bolt pattern is the same. The length of the shaft is the same

Separately, I bought the yoke, jig, & drill bits for my other XJs 242 over a long period of time. I sold the Jeep. To me it makes sense to install it on my current ride.

Thank you for the response. I'll grab one in the salvage yard this weekend.

To answer your question Yes you can take an 96+ Tail cone and install it on your 89. Then use a 96+ Hack & Tap since then 96+ Tail cone is acting as your seal.

I was going to do this myself until I bought one from a Guy on Naxja for $70 that included the Pre-96 seal.

The Advantage is it saves time & money.
