T-Case swap
Well I posted this in OEM tech but didn't get any responses so I figure I'll try here too. I did a little searching but haven't seen anyone state specifially if this will work. I have a line on a NP208 for pretty cheap. From my understanding these have fixed yokes front and rear. My question is will this bolt up to my AX15 or are the spline counts and bolt spacings different? I've seen them used on other transmissions, but never an AX15. I figure if it'll slide in and bolt up it would be a cheap and easy SYE. Any thoughts? Thanks,

the spline count on the 208 is 23, i believe it was 92 for the cross year in the Jeeps for the spline count on the trans output shaft. Goes from a 21 (pre ?91?) to 23 (after 92?).
despite the fact that the front d-shaft yoke is on the opposite side of the t-case (231 is driver drop, and the 208 is a passenger drop)
while the 6-bolt style is the same.. the input shaft design is completely different..
I'm going to say not this will not work...But what would be interesting is if you could swap the gears out of the 231-has a 2:72 ratio with the gears in the 208-has a 2:62 ratio
Link below for a lot of good info on t-cases:

Btw a cheap and easy SYE would be to take a 231 from a 96 or newer XJ and cut down the tailshaft, then drill n tap or weld a yoke onto the shaft=Done... Look up Hack n Tap 231 on here or on google and do some research

Check out Novak Jeep Conversions at http://www.novak-adapt.com/ for all the info you ever wanted (and then some) regarding transmission-to-xfer case compatibility and adaptation. Their site is awesome!

Cool thanks guys. As far as the hack and tap goes, I've heard that if you snap a drive shaft that your yoke will fall out of the T-case, is this true? I was going to just do a AA SYE and Tom Woods shaft, but time and money are starting to get in the way of that. I'll look more into a hack and tap, perhaps that is my best bet.

Hack and tap replaces the slip yoke that can come out of the case, hack and tap bolts on so it ain't going anywhere. Been running one for years and no issues.
