Okay so I decided to check the runout on the driveshaft
with it in the Jeep under its "natural" state in the yoke
I had .026 right behind the CV
But before you all jump to conclusions.
While I was messing with the sye yoke I discovered that the U joint cap area was .020 too wide. So of course the side where the .026 runout was was on the side that was close to the cv yoke, right.
Soooooooo, I jammed a .020 feeler gauge in the "tight" side and tightened my bolts back down
Low and behold that brought the runout down to .006
after I got the feeler back out the joint had sprung back a bit and that left me with .009 runout at the CV
I measured the rear of the shaft too had .004 at the pinion yoke and .005 at the start of the splines in the slip joint
I drove it up to 70ish MPH and the vibes are almost completely gone
what does this mean? it means the yokes U joint center is .026 off the spline center for the output shaft. About what I had figured from the go on this deal

Okay just to throw this out there, if any one else ever has this problem go pull a front output form a N242 T case, it is pretty much the same yoke in all the places it matters
Vibes seem to have went away with the JY yoke I pulled today
Thank God for Genuine Spicer yokes for $11

I am only bringing up this old thread to say thankyou for posting it. I have spent a year going thru my jeep and pouring thru forums to try and get rid of the vibration. I finally found this one, borrowed a front yoke from a np 249 a buddy had laying around, and presto, no more vibration!! Same brand of sye. We are in the process of getting them to stand behind their shoddy quality control right now.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
