could try just using some u-bolts around the factory crossbars if you're not looking for super heavy duty.

I have a parts XJ and I took the stock crossbars from it and added them to my XJ so I have four of them, then I used eight u-bolts to hold mine on. So far, it has held up. I carry my 31" spare and my hi-lift all the time. Sometimes I'll have gas and water cans up there as well.

Default Rack n Rail

X2 on the additional cross stock rack as cross members.
I replaced some of the scews of the roof rails into the roof with expanding clinch anchors. No problems with rack loaded to the max.

For some reason I can't upload photos right now. Some kind of update, or lack there of, incompatibility. But I'm trying to show you guys what I did with the JCR rack mount brackets. Basically, I reshaped them and turned them the other way to fit my stock roof rails instead of the gutters. It ended up being a very strong setup! I have literally pushed 5 inch diameter leaning trees out of the way with my rack on the trail. The beauty of JCR brackets is they're cheap enough that they're worth buying just for the steel if nothing else, then you can reshape them for custom use or just weld them to your rack and use them as is. BTW, I may have posted some pics of my rack on another thread. I'll keep looking/trying.
