Default SYE (Slip Yoke Eliminator) Install

Alright guys, there may be a thread up about this (I went back about 6 pages without finding one) so I'll start my own. Anybody have experience doing a SYE install. I have one sitting at the shop right now, and a CV driveshaft to go with it, but I remember hearing at one point that when you do the SYE install there is a part that has to be replaced in the T-Case. Any info, suggestions, problems that I can avoid from your experiences, I'd love it hear it. Thanks guys.

Probably should have said this, but its a 95 xj with the 231 tcase

So nothing too crazy happened during the install? Just trying to gauge how many "ah f**k" moments I'm going to have doing this. What was your install time roughly? I have access to a full shop so that definitely makes my life easier, tools everywhere.

nope pretty straight forward... i have a lap top so i had it next to me watching the video and looking at the write up while i had parts in my hands... hardest part was getting the stock snap rings off... i did it while the TC was in the jeep also

i was in the same boat you are a couple weeks ago... you have nothing to worry about as long as you have basic mechanical skills

And if i find my "basic mechanical skills" are a bit more basic than i thought, got some techs that can make me feel like a dumb****, but get it done. Didn't even think about using a video/laptop to get it done....definitely will help thanks for the input

May have to cut the shift fork rod to "specific length", this turned into a "ah ****" moment for me.

i think its cause it wont shift into 4wd.. but it will shift out of 4wd after you have done the sye... i know my buddy didnt do this he had to take it apart and manually put it into 4L and put it all back together... but i could be wrong

FYI you dont need a gear puller... i used a screw driver and just worked the dust shield off

Make sure you are able to get the full plug out before you drain it if it's your dd. if its stuck then chances are you will need a new back half of the t case

At the expense of sounding like an idiot, what do you mean by "full plug"
