I'm getting a RE 3.5" lift installed in a few weeks and have been told I'll need to get both a SYE and rear drive shaft. The RE technical rep I met today at the Puyallup Jeep show said that a Tcase drop won't keep you from having driveline vibration. He said I should do both a SYE and the proper length driveshaft. He said that if I did that on mine I wouldn't need to drop the TCASE. He said that avoids some of the hassle with the install too. With yours being 4.5" I don't know if that still holds true. I looked at 4Wheel Parts online catalog and searched and found the right ones for mine. You might try that. Hope that helps some,

It's not an either or question.. You install a SYE so that you CAN install a CV type drive shaft. The SYE allows you to install a drive shaft like the one on the front of your rig.. So the question is TC drop or SYE and CV drive shaft.

Yeah I did some research an that's why I stuck with the tc for now.

If you are worried that you Jeep has so much flex you might drop the shaft you could install straps to limit the down travel. At 4.5" you are close to binding the u-joints but not there yet so the TC drop should do just fine. I wheeled MY XJ at 5.5" for 2 years without a SYE.. Did finally flex it enough to spit the slip-yoke. My solution, was to lower the Jeep to 4" of lift. no more DS issue. Someday when I have the $$ I'll get the SYE and put the other 2" back in. Maybe.

Where I live in FL I stick to mostly mud when I'm off road and I haven't done much since I got the lift on because cops have been hounding us out at our usual spots. I'm waiting on some quick discos at the moment. And end of May I might do the sye and ds since I might add more lift to run some 35's I have laying around. Buddy of mine has 4 in lift on his jk and is starting to have driveline probs I told him that tc drop just ain't cuttin it
