Hey guy,
I'm starting the process of making my jeep more trail worthy and have a few questions about the sway bars. I'm debating removing the rear sway bar and was wondering if the was a quick disconnect for them as well as the front? If not does anyone advocate against taking it off for good? Also, anyone have a sticky or video on how to make and mount homemade front quick disconnects? They seem a little pricy for what they really are. Thanks.

Get rid of the rear. I took mine off and did not really notice a difference. I had also just put in new leaf packs which probably account for some of it. As for the front, I just put on the JKS quicker disconnects. Did not look into making my own, but I have since seen a few threads with instructions. Seems easy enough.
I removed my front and rear about 6 months ago and it drives great. It has body roll but nothing unsafe. Just take them out, dont waste money on disconnects unless you do a lot of high speed driving.

I really wouldn't take front sway bar off on a street vehicle. I had mine off for a week after I did my lift while waiting for adj discos and started to get death wobble past 45mph. Its just going to wear your suspension faster and is unsafe period.
got the adj discos and new bushing and I can corner at 70mph ;P
I just got cheap rough countrys they were $60 on ebay, workin fine.

I don't run sway bars at all but im lifted so things are stiffer...take the back off you don't need it...if you are ever replacing thr rear shocks you can use the bracket that holds your rear sway bar as a bar pin eliminator (meaning instead of a little piece of metal screwed into your body you have a actual mount to wear you can run a nut a bolt in it..much stronger alot of pple do it on the rusty ones cuz it's nearly impossible to get the rear shocks off without snapping off the bolt heads...its so easy to make quick discos yourself..but search "bpe"
This was sent to me by MikeT2 when I asked about making your own. It looks pretty easy I just have not had the time yet.
I have about $45.00 in them if you install new rubber bushings ( Duralast #SL231) it will add an extra $40.00 to the cost.
Materials:
1/8” Hairpin Cotter Pins = 4 each
1/2” dia. Adjustable Grip Clevis Pin (modify length as required) = 2 each
5/8” dia. X 1” lg. grade 8 hex bolt w/ washer and hex nut = 2 each
Shock conversion (modified) = 1 each
1/2” Steel flat washer = 2 each
Steel tubing 3/4 OD x 1/2” ID (length to be determined by lift height)
The short eye ends were salvaged from the rear sway bar links. The longer eye ends were from the existing front sway bar links with the grommet ends removed.

I have had both of mine off for well over a year now made a couple cross country trips (South Dakota to Houston, TX) and never had an issue. There is no wobble in a properly setup vehicle.

I never ran sway bars on my jeep either. other xj owners ride along and are always surprised at the lack of body roll. if you've got decently stiff shocks and everything else is set up right, sway bars are as pointless as steering stabilizers
We'll I must be set up good cuz even if I hit a dip on the e way and try to make it sway turning the wheel back and forth a liitle it still don't sway enough to be a problem lol
