swapping dana 30& 35 for dana 60's
#16
some d60's came with 30spline axle shafts so that 8.8 may have more splines. people go d60's because you can buy $$$ 35spline shafts for them. if you are not putting a ton on money into it then why run it? the 8.8 is close in WMS as stock but a d60 will be WAY to wide unless you shorten them

Are you saying a 8.8 is stronger than a 30 spline 60 because it has more splines?

you forgot that the brakes are much bigger.

44 would be fine. But keep in mind its the same size u-joint as the 30. you can do upgraded shafts, which would solve that, and have the bigger ring gear that the 30. If your not going to be doing anything crazy it will be fine. Other wise, to me, for all the work involved you might as well swap the 60

I have a dana60 up front and a dana70 in the rear of my cherokee. it was a lot of work and takes quite a bit of fabrication skill, (fortunately I have friends with skills) - it is NOT a weekend swap, nor is it a bolt-in swap. There are a lot of things to take into consideration... clearances, axle width differences, driveshaft differences, etc. etc., etc. They can be built very strong to handle very large tires and lockers and extreme conditions, but unless you are planning on building an extreme off-road vehicle, (and if you are - then I HIGHLY recommend them), you are taking on a huge project that will cost you more money than you're anticipating - and you probably don't need to do it. There are many other axle swaps that would make sense and could be done fairly easily and inexpensively; again, it just depends on what you're looking to do with your cherokee when you're done. Take a look at some of my pics and you'll see there is a LOT of changes there... be sure that's what you want to do before you jump in.

all depends what 8.8 rear you get. rangers had the 8.8 and they only had 27 spline. explorer had 31. as for anything else they came in im not sure what spline count is. so would everybody agree that a 44 front and 8.8 rear would be fine for 37's? i am no hard core wheeler but i do get into rough places. i knew the 60 was way big but like i said good deal and between me and my friend i know i could stuff them under it.
