Default SUPER Budget Lift

1989 XJ 4.0L I-6 Limited with tow hitch

My mechanic can get me 31"s but I need a lift first obviously. I am on a super tight budget but it is cheaper to get the 31's than new tires and replace them with bigger ones later so I need help on deciding exactly what I need for a lift for 31" tires. And we will be trimming the body also and if anyone has done a super budget lift using even JY parts I would love to hear how you did it. Thanks!!

Spend $438 now on a Rustys 3" full leaf/coil/shock/hardware budget lift or.......Plan on spending a lot more along the way going the route your looking at, like the man says pay me now or pay me later a lot more!

If those are 31x10:50 you will need new wheels also so the tires won't hit the frame or LCA's a 15x8" with 3.75-4" of BS.

So it's not a good idea to do the Bastard Pack leafs with the ZJ front coils? And then buy the rest of the stuff new?

That is an option, but you end up replacing it all later anyways. Spend the money once and cry once.

Ok. I saw a lift kit online for $250 with shocks, coils, leaf springs and the u joints and all so I'll look into that

$250 with all of that is going to be an AAL (add a leaf) not new complete packs. Xj springs are too soft for using AAL and will warp or sag in a short amount of time.

A bastard pack (s10/XJ), new coils, JK Rubicon takeoff shocks and an adjustable track bar is what I would suggest on a tight budget for a starter lift and reasonable ride.

To go even cheaper but not as good. XJ/XJ bastard pack, two inch coil spacers, JK Rubicon takeoffs, redrilled stock track bar and fender trim will let you run the 31s. Also washers on the steering stops to stop the tires rubbing the lower control arms at full lock.

Seriously though cheap always ends up more expensive than quality over time.

The kit I saw had 4 shocks and 2 coils along with the AAL I believe. But I think I might get a set of 4 Rough Country shocks and maybe do an AAL with the adjustable shackles and try to find some 3" lift coils off of a Cherokee that was scrapped (or just spacers I the current springs or would that limit travel length?)

C'mon Liam, you've been here long enough to know better. I have to ask, what's this smoking deal on 31s? It must be great for you to want to throw together a subpar lift super quick. And you still haven't addressed the wheel issue, 7" rim, 5" backspace, rubbing LCAs.
If you MUST get bigger tires, and MUST lift it NOW! Why not go with 30x9.5 and a BB? The BB may be just a couple bucks more than a JY lift, but would be a lot easier than rebuilding a leaf pack, removing coils in the dirt, and having a questionable ride. http://www.rustysoffroad.com/rustys-...r-shackle.html
With a BB you should be able to retain the stock track bar, maybe just relocate brake lines, use your shocks for the time being, etc.

The Rustys kit is the cheapest kit with quality full leaf and coils made in NA NOT CHINA and that kit isn't junk as you should know also! All you will need extra as with ANY 3" kit is an Adj. Track Bar so plan on one of those. Then with trimming you can run 33x12:50's easy.

This is the Rough Country 3" lift. I know it's AAL but I will get the rest of the leafs replaced once I have the funds. This kit replaces the parts that I need as soon as I can because my shocks are going out.

I just gave away 4 good shocks and 4 good tires. I posted here, nobody local seemed interested. Just stock stuff but would have held you over for long enough to save some cash.
I'm still waiting to hear of this grand deal on 31s that has you so eager to choose the cheapest lift possible just to fit them. If it's not a deal then why not just browse CL for some take-off wheels/tires, or a local used tire shop?

They are take-off wheels. They are currently on a TJ that my mechanic is lifting and the guy will be buying new bigger tires so my mechanic is going to try to have him sell them to me. They will be cheaper than buying basic GoodYear Wrangler Radials

Geaneraly, in life, you can have it:
A) cheap
B) now
C) right

...pick 2.

Ok. Thanks guys. Going to follow up on this writing job for a Tire and wheel selling business for social media and forums. Hopefully I can get the extra income to do the lift as soon as possible.

Why dont you just trim, and adjust your turning stops for now so you can run the 31s stock. then save up for a nice lift, like RE, MetalCLoak, OME, ect..
