You could probably do that if they are really shallow. Otherwise you're pretty much limited to the cargo area.

I just have one 10" in the cargo area (at 400rms i believe) and it hits harder then i need it to. These things dont need much to have them hit hard since the sub isnt blocked or obstructed like would be in the trunk of a car or whatever.

So my opinion would be to just get a good quality 10" in a nice box (ported or whatever) and just purchase to the level of noise you want. There is no need for 2 12's taking up a ton of room, a single smaller quality sub thats done right will do everything you want.

There's a guy on here who makes boxes that fit in the side opening area of the cargo space of some XJs

Trying to put subs under the seat is not impossible, but it's not going to work with just any woofer. I haven't looked at mounting depth requirements for anything other than 8", so everything from here on relates to that. Almost all require 4" or more of mounting depth and anywhere from a third of a cubic foot to a little over a cubic foot of volume(sealed box). One cubic foot is 12"x12"x12", so obviously that presents a big problem trying to put a sub under the seat. There are some shallow mount subs, but you still have the problem of trying to get enough enclosure volume. The final option is "free air" subs, but the ones I found still had 4"+ of mounting depth. Also, free air subs won't keep up with any sort of decent sealed box woofer.

As far as I can tell you've got three options:
1. cut the floorpan and lower the section under the seats + reweld
2. raise the seats
3. put the subs elsewhere

What he said! I had a whole barn bumping with my single 300w Kicker C10. Here's my box: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/ca...117891/index4/

Put it under the seats and get stuck in a river... Cargo area is the way to go.

Digital Design makes an 8" that'll damn near blow the doors off.

Here's what I did:

Kicker CompVT 6.5" sub in the rear cubby.

You can read the specifics of my installation here:

At the frequencies a sub should be producing it doesn't really matter much if they're in the trunk or in the seat behind you. There will be some attenuation, but in the average car it's probably not enough to create an audible difference. Remember that decibels are on a logarithmic scale...every 3db is double the sound volume.

There are some very good 10" subs out there, but they'll never be the same as two 12" subs of equal quality.

Here's what I got going on. All my gear stored nice and neat and a 10" sub fluids in the left side and parts and tools on the right side. IMO I think the sub box is to big but that's what happens when you buy a pre-built box.

What he said!!! This will be the easiest way to throw a sub in the back without taking up much room. It sounds good, when done right. I work with a guy who did it. Had help putting a awesome sub and amp combo from a fellow co worker who used to install systems for a living. Sounded awesome. Jeeps gone now....bummer. But it was done right and sounded good. And took up zero room. Ido about you but I don't uses that cubby hole...
