stroked 4.0 yes or no
Im going to be rebuilding my 95 4.0 in my cherokee this year. I have been considering stroking it to a 4.6 using a 258 crank. What are your thoughts on this, or is there a better way to make more power? I would love to see more fuel economy too if its possible! Thanks.

I just completed an 4.7L stroker and it is awesome. Much more tourqe and plenty of more power.
Be wise when choosing your setup!!! You can go from 1000-4000$
Here is mine
Jeep 4.2L 3.895" stroke crank
Jeep 4.0L 6.125" rods
Keith-Black Silvolite UEM-IC944 +0.060" bore pistons
9.6:1 CR
CompCams 68-231-4 206/214 degree camshaft
CNC ported HO 1.91"/1.50" cylinder head
Mill block deck 0.020"
Mopar/Victor 0.043" head gasket
0.051" quench height
65mm over bore TB
Accel 26lb/hr injectors with stock 49psi FPR for '96 and later engines.
Target was 275hp @ 4900rpm, 333lbft @ 3500rpm (Stock is 190 HP and 225 lbft) This would be an increase of 85 HP and more important ca.110lbft
The 4.7L is an "torque monster"

Remember to port your heads and polish exhaust for some HPs. It's not feasible to power and fuel economy, it's a trade-off. The best we can do is eliminate waste for the most efficient air/fuel flow through the system. That said, I want a stroker too!! Keep us informed with pics!!

thanks guys that sounds very positive. Cybershot that engine looks awesome, I bet it sounds great. Does that cam give it a lopey idle? I bet that engine sounds great, I hear they sound better with that stroker set up.

All I need is a good 258 crank, anybody have one they want to sell. Im not sure I trust EBay for a crankshaft. I've had good luck with ebay on almost everything but engine parts like cranks rods and blocks I worry.

I would just find a 4.2 in a junkyard but I'm torn on strokers. Seen a few die on the trail and they dont have the best reliability unless you drop a lot of coin into it. At that point a V8 would become feasible.

If you build one, just make sure you have the crank professionally ballanced, and get lighter weight pistons and wrist pins, if at all possible. And get a rev limiter and set it aat somewhere between 4500 and 5000 rpm, and it should treat you for a longer life than most 4.0 strokers!
