Default Stock XJ Modifications

Hello, I have recently bought a Stock 2001 Jeep, I don’t want to over-do it, but want to add some mods to it to make it look and perform better, can some of you people give suggestions?

It might help to ask yourself this question first:

"What do I want to do with this Jeep?"

Come back with an answer to that, and there will be plenty of input from this forum.

Ask vague questions. Get vague answers. Do you want neon underglow and spinners or to turn it into a redneck special? Be more specific about what it is you're looking for.

I tend to push people towards a small (~1.5") lift and 30"x9.5" all terrain tires because I think it looks good with increased offroad capability without sacrificing much in terms of factory performance characteristics (handling and power).

Agree with the small lift, 1.5-2" and 30x9.50. That's of course after you've addressed any reliably issues

it's a 2001 find out if it still has the stock head on it because they will crack . mine did on my 2001 . I used a 2004 grand cherokee 4.0l tupy head , I got it from a pick an pull and it only cost about $60 for the head . Then you need to find out if you want to lift it and how high , how big of a tire you want to run , the higher you go the more stuff you need change and more money it will cost .so if you give us some more info we can help you .

the 01 head might crack and it might not. it's something you have to watch. My 01 has 225,000 miles on it and is still going fine.

Simple mods for a stock Cherokee in my opinion would be:
4 or 12 hole fuel injectors
LED headlights
LED interior lights
All Terrain tires
Speakers/stereo upgrade

I would argue that changing injectors is just opening up a can of worms. If the engine is running good don't F-it up by changing stuff that is working.

Well since the OP is asking for simple mods to improve performance, that is one that is simple and improves performance. I would disagree with your statement as the stock injectors are known to go bad and 4-hole injectors are known to work better. But if that's your opinion.

I've run the 12 hole in my 00 now for a year now that I purchased off of here and smoother idle, a little better throttle response, and a small increase in mileage when I'm not beating it is the best can of worms I've opened

OP, in agreement with the others on what do you want your XJ to do? I'll list a few general ideas, specific ones you'll have to search:

- 12 hole injectors, bored throttle body
- Cowl Intake
- TUPY Head if your head cracks
- LED Headlights
- LED Interior Lights
- Rear disc brake conversion
- Exhaust
- Subs / Aftermarket Radio / Amp
- Battery cable upgrade
- Headlight harness upgrade
- Upgraded Motor Mounts
- Alternator Upgrade
- Lockers
- Wheels / Tires
- Removing Trim / Cutting Fenders

It all depends on if you want a show boating mall crawler or a redneck riviera mud bogger.....

I'd suggest that you address the suspension first, and then throw on a set of all terrains. You can improve the ride quality and enhance the appearance for reasonably cheap with this approach. Here's a picture of my 2001 with an add a leaf and Moog V8 ZJ coils. It sits about 1" over the factory ride height, and allowed me to go to a 30x9.50" tire. New shocks would certainly help as well. Other than that, some Hella 500s mounted to the front bumper is a relatively cheap way to enhance the appearance. The head on mine did not crack in the 245,000 miles the engine lasted before a piston skirt broke. I used a head from a different year when the engine was rebuilt though, since the other ones have been known to crack more often. I got the different head from a junkyard for cheap. The possibilities are endless though, and it really all just depends on what you want to do with the Jeep, and how much money you're willing/able to put into it.

hey sorry for the late reply, I’m on a budget since I am in high school. I’ve done some simple things such as led lights and stuff, nothing too major
